Accepted Formats
1) EPS Files (Preferred Format)
Adobe Illustrator settings
Files should should be set for high resolution output. Files will be output to device resolution of 2400 dpi.
All imported images must be embedded.
Select all text and Create Outlines
Be sure that the colors are specified properly in you files. Colors meant to print CMYK should not be set to spot. Make sure that colors are set to CMYK rather than RGB. Delete any unused colors from the color palette.
Be aware of effects that can be caused by transparency and flattener settings. All transparency must be flattened in the final page that is submitted for processing.
2) Adobe Acrobat PDF Files (Acrobat 4, 5 and 6)
PDF files must be Distilled from PostScript files.
The settings below are provided as basic parameters, because versions/platforms/applications vary, we strongly encourage you to go here, click on the icon for Cadmus MediaWorks Digital File Specs and download PPDs and other files which explain the proper settings for your environment.
All items not mentioned should be turned off, set to default or to none. Use Prinergy Refiner PPD (or Distiller PostScript Printer, as a second choice).
Distiller Job Options Settings:
1. General Compatibility: Acrobat 3 Optimize PDF Resolution: 2400 dpi Binding: Left
2. Compression uncheck all three Bicubic Downsampling (Resampling) boxes (Color, Grayscale, and Monochrome Bitmap
Images) Compression for Color and Grayscale Bitmap Images is JPEG, Quality: Maximum. Compression for Monochrome
Bitmap Images is CCITT Group 4 Compress Text and Line Art box should be checked
3. Fonts Check the Embed All Fonts box Check the Subset All Embedded Fonts box and specify Below 100% When
Embedding Fails specify Cancel Job for Embedding specify Base 14 Fonts Always and Never Embed should remain empty
4. Color for Conversion, specify Leave Color Unchanged for Options, Preserve ALL
5. Advanced for Options, select Allow PostScript file to Override Job Options for Document Structuring Conventions (DSC) specify Process DSC Comments, Preserve EPS Information from DSC, and Preserve Document information from DSC
3) Application Files
If you are unable to provide your ad in one of the above-mentioned formats, please contact us for possible alternatives. We cannot accept ads created in Publisher, Word or Power Point.
Images
1. Images must be saved as either EPS or TIFF in Photoshop CMYK or Grayscale mode at 300 dpi resolution. Do not use web graphics, including jpg or gif files: These files are low resolution (usually 72 dpi).
2. Save clipping paths on Photoshop EPS files with a flatness of 2.
Color
All art should be CYMK or Grayscale (No RGB, Pantone or spot color)
Materials
Clearly label all materials with your company name, contact name and phone number and the publication name.
Proofs
Provide a B/W laser (for B/W ads) or color proof (for color ads). Acceptable output for color proofs include: Kodak Approval Proof, Progressives, Thermal or any other SWOP compliant proof. Proofs should be 100% unless otherwise noted, and should match latest version of supplied electronic file.
We are not responsible for accuracy of files if a hard copy proof is not submitted.
An additional charge applies for generation of color proof when none is supplied.
