Option 2
FIELD TRIP
The all-day tour on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 starts with a visit to one of the largest food residuals composting facilities in the mid-Atlantic region. This facility processes commercial organics from supermarkets, food prep facilities and other generators. These feedstocks are combined with municipal yard trimmings, as well as other source separated materials. The next stop is a biosolids/yard trimmings cocomposting facility, which is part of a county Resource Recovery Park that includes recycling and educational programs. The in-vessel composting plant services multiple biosolids generators. The tour also highlights demonstration of compost-based systems for erosion and sediment control and storm water management, as well as side-by-side performance comparisons with traditional products.
